Alexander McQueen

S 2010

If a fashion designer or artist is very innovative or interesting but does not communicate clearly to the outside world, there can be a lack of recognition. Some of the progressive designers of The Antwerp Six - Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten and others – take a non-commercial perspective and do little to no branding or advertising. It is possible to have a strong vision and brand without compromising a unique style in communications, as with Vivienne Westwood or Alexander McQueen. McQueen is the controversial son of a taxi driver and graduate of Central Saint Martins. He has created his own line and designed for Givenchy from 1996-2001. His label is now owned in majority stake by PPR Gucci group.
