Alt Vs. Crescent

Vogue, November 2011 in the Alt Era

Vs.

Vogue, October 1985, under Francine Crescent

One of my most frequently read posts is Vogue Paris Now: The Alt Era. We can already see Alt taking Vogue Paris in a bold, beauty focused direction. She is choosing a lot more portrait covers, common to the 70s and 80s. This recalls the era of Vogue Paris editor Francine Crescent, who brought in Bourdin and Newton. It is an important reference for Alt because it not only breaks with the stylist intensity that Roitfeld established, but it affirms the existing brand of the magazine.
