When Helmut Lang founded his label in 1986, he had a fierce minimalism comparable to the Japanese designers in Paris at the time. Through the early 21st century, he continued making asymmetrical jersey and knits, along with progressive silhouettes. He has since gone on to be devoted to art, while the label continues to offer well designed, neutral basics in the original spirit. See an interview with Lang here.
