Chanel Immobile

Zaha Hadid's mothership has finally come to rest in Paris at the Arab World Institute. The structure was previously used for the Chanel Mobile Art project. The Chanel News website states that it was approached by the Arab World Institute for a permanent installation of the structure in 2011. Re-purposing existing structures is so essential to art today. The responsibility to existing forms was the basis for the exhibition Terminal 5, which re-used Eero Saarinen's TWA Terminal in New York. The project appeared in 2004, during the rise of eco-sustainable consciousness and appreciation of re-use.

Novelty always attracts humans but familiarity does not mean there cannot be appreciation. Familiarity is after all the very basis of intimacy and love. So if we can take familiar, existing structures and allow them to offer encounters with the endless novelty of beauty, we match public interest. This is the basis of the greatest spectacle, nature itself - same sky, different seasons!
